Oh, how many times did I answer that question growing up, and how many times did it change! It went from wanting to become the first female jockey at 5 years old, to Wonder Woman, FBI agent, lawyer, and Entrepreneur. As a teenager, I dreamt of working in downtown Dallas with a front row view of the skyline like J.R. Ewing, or being Wonder Woman wearing those cool bracelets she had that could fend off bullets.
I was a voracious reader of fiction, non-fiction, and I can remember being so excited when my parents purchased the library of Encyclopedia Britannica. (Yes I know that is geeky, but true.) Reading opened my eyes to different cultures, places, food, thought, and it spurned my own imagination to dream about the type of life I wanted. It gave me a passion to always want to learn and experience more.
Going from living in one of the Barrios in Alice, Texas, where our first home didn’t have an indoor bathroom for the first few years, to the dream home my parents had built on 10 acres was what made me see and believe dreams can come true when you set your mind to it. My parents both worked hard, saved their money, and were able to make their dream a reality for all of us. I vividly remember the day they received the keys to the house, we were all excited as we drove out to see our new home!
